Albacore tuna is typically found in both tropical and temperate waters. Albacore provides meat that is mild in taste, low in fat, and a good source of protein and Omega-3s. The species grows up to 4 ½ feet in length, with an estimated lifespan of 12 years.
We are committed to the protection of the marine environment and responsible sourcing. We are co-founding members of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), which is dedicated to the long-term conservation and sustainable use of yellowfin tuna stocks, the reduction of bycatch, and the promotion of ocean ecosystems.
We work with environmental advocates and scientists to ensure that our suppliers’ fishing practices protect ocean stocks for decades to come. All fishing techniques used are compliant with our Dolphin-Safe Policy.
Yellowfin tuna is highly migratory and caught in all oceans across the globe. In some instances, fish in a single can may come from multiple FAO catch areas. We have stringent methods in place to track the catch location of each fish, but given the nature of fishing and the highly migratory species, we cannot always guarantee the accuracy of this reporting.

Miles-long fishing lines have branch lines with baited hooks that catch two to three fish per 100 hooks. This method accounts for about 12% of the total global tuna catch. Circle hooks and tori (bird-scaring) lines help to prevent the bycatch of other marine life such as turtles and seabirds.
On its journey from the ocean to your table, the tuna from many boats will be processed in the same facility. We choose only the highest quality to go into each can, and that may include fish from multiple boats or more than one catch. Your results include up to ten vessels for each can code. Interested in a complete list? Contact us with your can code here.
Our catch is frozen and stored onboard our ships at -13º, then delivered to processing plants around the world.
Fish are thawed, thoroughly cleaned, then baked. Genova has strict quality control standards, and routinely test all of our products to ensure they meet FDA guidelines and all U.S. regulations.
The cooked loins are then frozen and shipped to our U.S. cannery.
The tuna loins are added to cans with olive oil and salt—simple ingredients that bring out the taste of the fish. The cans are then sealed and sterilized, ensuring our product meets the highest food-safety standards.
The finished product is delivered to our retailers, awaiting your plate. Time to enjoy your tuna!
At Genova, we pride ourselves on our long-standing commitment to operating a socially and environmentally responsible business. We realize that our sustainability obligations don’t end when the seafood is caught, but extend all the way through the processing, packaging, and delivery to our customers.
We recognize the reach and reputation of Genova allows us to lead the industry in effecting real change that will minimize bycatch, protect stock levels, preserve oceans, improve working conditions and ensure safe and legal practices throughout every fishing operation in the world. We have already made considerable progress towards achieving these within our own operations.
